Grand Mosque Of Sheikh Ablullatif Al-Fozan
The strategic location of the mosque allows it to assume a landmark presence in its urban context. The size of the mosque program would consume a significant part of the site area if distributed on ground level, therefore visually and physically interrupting the main urban axis or spine around which the whole development is organized. To overcome this, the main functions of the prayer halls are elevated to createan urban plaza underneath that ensures continuity of the mamsha spine, and to ensure visual connectivity through the mosque building.
The design of the future mosque is based on a multi-layered approach aimed at fulfilling urban, architectural, social, cultural, economic and environmental needs and aspirations. These may be grouped in the following three main objectives:
Mosque as a Community Center, Urban Presence and Sustainability.
